Gas Odors

Name: Al

City: Plymouth

Inquiry Type: Appliance repair question

Comments:
While doing laundry, after several loads of washing and drying (gas dryer) , we noticed a strong gas smell in the laundry room. We called Consumers Power who sent out a tech to look for a potential leak. Using the electronic sniffer leak detector, the tech found no leaks in the line, but indicated the equipment showed a small amount of gas in the dryer itself. She turned off the gas supply to the dryer and tagged the dryer, indicating it should not be used until it is repaired. Is this unusual? What is the likely cause? Any recommendations of an appliance repair service in our (Plymouth, MI ) area?

Hi Al,
Thanks for your note.
It has been known to happen. The gas valve assembly is not shutting off completely. It is something that a tech should check out. My son Mark covers your area. His number is 734-953-6991. Please let me know what problem is discovered.

Replacement Washer

Name: Vickie

City: Ypsilanti

Inquiry Type: Appliance repair question

Comments:
We need to purchase a new top load washer. Just for 2 adults - no need for all the extra's just clean clothes. We were looking at the Maytag Centennial 3.6 cu. ft. high efficiency (model # MVWC360AW) but we're finding mixed reviews. What brand & model would you suggest?

Hi Vickie,
Thanks for your note.
I prefer the Speed Queen washer, available at Busen's Appliance in Lincoln Park or Heydlauffs in Chelsea. The best in the business today.

Defective Water Valve

Name: Vito

City: Sterling Heights

Inquiry Type: Appliance repair question

Comments:
I have an Ice Maker on a Maytag refrigerator that I can not get to work. I have replaced the ice maker and valve. The only thing I haven't replaced is the water filter valve. If I put 115 volts to the ice maker water valve, it flows water. The ice maker sends 120 volts to the valve when cycled. Could it be the second valve? Anything else I can check? I am at a loss.

Hi Vito,
Thanks for your note.
There are times when the water valve will allow water to drip through. This slow drip can freeze in the fill tube behind the ice maker. You can melt that ice using a hair dryer but it also means replacing the defective water valve.

Gas Stove Won't Stop Sparking

Name: Connie

City: West Bloomfield

Inquiry Type: Appliance repair question

Comments:
The electric spark on my gas cooktop won't stop sparking. It's now unplugged. Is this something I can fix?As always I appreciate your expertise.

Hi Connie,
Thanks for your note.
High humidity conditions can cause this to happen. Check the switches behind the knobs for a loose wire. The modulator is a plastic piece with all the wires coming from it. That could be defective.
